Prayer of Thanksgiving for the Blessings of the Past Year

O God, the beginning and the end of all things,
Who art always the same, and Whose years fail not,
we now, at the close of another year,
kneel in adoration before Thee, and offer Thee our deepest thanks
for the fatherly care with which Thou has watched over us during the past,
for the many times Thou hast protected us from evils of soul and body,
and for the numberless blessings, both temporal and spiritual,
which Thou hast showered upon us.
May it please Thee to accept the homage of our grateful hearts which we offer Thee
in union with the infinite thanksgiving of Thy divine Son,our Lord Jesus Christ,
Who with Thee liveth and reigneth forever and ever. Amen.

The Shocking Truth: Born Alive Aborted Babies Being Left to Die

In 1999 a gruesome discovery was made that an IL hospital was shelving babies to die in a soiled utility room who had survived their abortions.

The federal Born Alive Infants Protection Act was introduced in 2000 to provide legal protection to all born babies, wanted or not, including the right to medical care.

In 2002, Born Alive passed unanimously in the U.S. Senate and by overwhelming voice vote in the House. On August 5, President George W. Bush signed the bill into law.

Despite that, numerous accounts from various parts of the country document abortion survivors are still being medically neglected until they die or are outright killed – infanticide.

BornAliveTruth.org exists to expose the shocking truth and pursue enforcement of Born Alive.

Jill Stanek, R.N. blew the whistle on babies born alive being left to die. Read Jill's story here.

Gianna Jessen survived an abortion. Read Gianna's story here.

Turtle Eggs Have More Legal Rights Than Unborn Human Babies

"...facts that many people don't know, don't appreciate and/or don't think about, because they are unpleasant and the major media choose to direct attention elsewhere.

"Like the fact that a turtle egg has more legal rights than an unborn baby. It's illegal under the Endangered Species Act to destroy a turtle's eggs, but aborting an unborn baby is legal.

"Like the fact that the number of unborn babies aborted in the United States each year greatly exceeds the number of Americans killed in combat since the Revolutionary War. There have been about 45,000,000 abortions in the United States since the hapless United States Supreme Court said that the government was helpless to protect the unborn.

"The number of unborn babies killed in the United States since Roe v. Wade was decided is more than seven times the number of Jews slaughtered in the Holocaust. Some six million Jews were killed for being Jews in the Holocaust."

These words were written by Father Frank Pavone on Feb. 14, 2005, so the abortion toll is now closer to 50,000,000 unborn babies' lives deliberately and cruelly taken in the United States of America alone--a tragic and sad commentary on the shameful moral state of a once great nation.

Prayer to Baby Jesus

HAIL! HOLY BABE

HAIL! Holy Babe of Bethlehem,
All hail to Thee!
Right joyously our hearts exclaim,
O Jesu mi!

My God, what brought Thee from above,
A man to be?
What other than a burning love,
O Jesu mi!

A child to us is born this day,
O happy we!
And ours be now Thy praise to say,
O Jesu mi!

But love with love we must repay,
So tenderly;
With Mary, Joseph, let us pray,
O Jesu mi!

Dr. Martin Luther King: Sacredness of All Human Life

On Christmas of 1967, Martin Luther King Jr. preached the following words: “The next thing we must be concerned about if we are to have peace on earth and good will toward men is the nonviolent affirmation of the sacredness of all human life. Every man is somebody because he is a child of God…Man is more than …whirling electrons or a wisp of smoke …. Man is a child of God, made in His image, and therefore must be respected as such….And when we truly believe in the sacredness of human personality, we won’t exploit people, we won’t trample over people with the iron feet of oppression, we won’t kill anybody.”

Vatican II taught, “By his incarnation the Son of God has united himself in some fashion with every human being” (GS, 22). Hence The Gospel of Life states, “It is precisely in the “flesh” of every person that Christ continues to reveal himself and to enter into fellowship with us, so that rejection of human life, in whatever form that rejection takes, is really a rejection of Christ” (EV #104) and again, “life, especially human life, belongs only to God: for this reason whoever attacks human life, in some way attacks God himself” (EV #9).

God Chose to Become a Child for the Sake of All of His Children

"The medieval theologian William of Saint Thierry once said that God – from the time of Adam – saw that his grandeur provoked resistance in man, that we felt limited in our own being and threatened in our freedom. Therefore God chose a new way. He became a child. He made himself dependent and weak, in need of our love. Now – this God who has become a child says to us – you can no longer fear me, you can only love me.

"With these thoughts, we draw near this night to the child of Bethlehem – to the God who for our sake chose to become a child. In every child we see something of the Child of Bethlehem. Every child asks for our love. This night, then, let us think especially of those children who are denied the love of their parents. Let us think of those street children who do not have the blessing of a family home, of those children who are brutally exploited as soldiers and made instruments of violence, instead of messengers of reconciliation and peace. Let us think of those children who are victims of the industry of pornography and every other appalling form of abuse, and thus are traumatized in the depths of their soul. The Child of Bethlehem summons us once again to do everything in our power to put an end to the suffering of these children; to do everything possible to make the light of Bethlehem touch the heart of every man and woman. Only through the conversion of hearts, only through a change in the depths of our hearts can the cause of all this evil be overcome, only thus can the power of the evil one be defeated. Only if people change will the world change; and in order to change, people need the light that comes from God, the light which so unexpectedly entered into our night."

The Angelus

THE ANGELUS

The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.
And she conceived of the Holy Ghost.
Hail Mary, ...

Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
Be it done unto me according to Thy word.
Hail Mary, ...

And the Word was made Flesh.
And dwelt among us.
Hail Mary, ...

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let Us Pray

Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts, that we to whom the Incarnation of Christ Thy Son was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection. Through the same Christ Our Lord.
Amen.

The Wisdom of Today Well Lived

Look to this day
For it is life,
The very life of life.

In its brief course lie all
the realities and truths of existence
the joy of growth
the glory of action
the splendor of beauty.

For yesterday is already a memory
and tomorrow is only a vision
but today well lived makes every
yesterday a memory of happiness
and every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day!

There Was a Heartbeat: Adoption Blessing

We fell in love instantly with his birth parents. They were very young, but they had made such a mature decision for their baby. The day Eli was born was the best day of my life, and I will be eternally grateful. All I kept saying to the birth parents was, "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!"

Ronald Reagan Speaks About Abortion, Religion and Life

On 1/30/84 President Ronald Reagan spoke about abortion, religion, and life to the National Religious Broadcasters:

"God's most blessed gift to His family is the gift of life. He sent us the Prince of Peace as a babe in a manger. I've said that we must be cautious in claiming God is on our side. I think the real question we must answer is, are we on His side?

I know what I'm about to say now is controversial, but I have to say it. This nation cannot continue turning a blind eye and a deaf ear to the taking of some 4,000 unborn children's lives every day. That's one every 21 seconds. One every 21 seconds.

We cannot pretend that America is preserving her first and highest ideal, the belief that each life is sacred, when we've permitted the deaths of 15 million helpless innocents since the Roe versus Wade decision -- 15 million children who will never laugh, never sing, never know the joy of human love, will never strive to heal the sick or feed the poor or make peace among nations. Abortion has denied them the first and most basic of human rights. We are all infinitely poorer for their loss.

There's another grim truth we should face up to: Medical science doctors confirm that when the lives of the unborn are snuffed out, they often feel pain, pain that is long and agonizing.

This nation fought a terrible war so that black Americans would be guaranteed their God-given rights. Abraham Lincoln recognized that we could not survive as a free land when some could decide whether others should be free or slaves. Well today another question begs to be asked: How can we survive as a free nation when some decide that others are not fit to live and should be done away with?

I believe no challenge is more important to the character of America than restoring the right to life to all human beings. Without that right, no other rights have meaning. "Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not, for such is the kingdom of God."
(Today the daily abortion death toll of unborn babies in the USA is still 4ooo, with a shocking and scandalous total of 50 million lives lost since abortion became legal.)

Fr. Thomas Eunteneuer: Thanksgiving and Protection for God's Gift of Life

"First and foremost, we thank God for the precious gift of our lives. No matter what the circumstances of our conception or birth are; no matter what challenges we may have had to face, life itself is a good that comes from on high and which God always sustains. We can share our lives with others, fill others with life and lay down our lives for our friends. Those who are married can even participate with God in the creation of new life for time and eternity. Not even the angels have been given the gift of procreation!

"More than anything we are called to protect life which is sacred and which is so threatened in our day and age. In this Advent season we must make sure that we have some type of explicit pro-life, pro-marriage or pro-family commitment to others in order to show God how much we appreciate these tremendous gifts of His love."

Our Lady of Guadalupe, Protectress of the Unborn

"Of all the many manifestations of Mary's loving presence among us throughout the centuries, in this apparition alone does she appear to us in the manner of a pregnant mother. She holds within her the unborn Christ, proclaiming the sanctity and blessedness of life within the womb. Her reverence and tenderness communicate to us the joy and awe with which we must approach each nascent life."

"When Mary first appeared to Blessed Juan Diego in 1531, Mexico had been in the hands of Christian leaders for only a short time. Human sacrifice, where blood of infants was often spilled to appease the thirsty demons of the old rite, was still practiced surreptitiously, a gruesome continuation of the country's long enslavement to pagan fears. Into this cavern of darkness and ignorance, our Lady of Guadalupe brought a message of maternal compassion. "I am the merciful Mother, the Mother of all of you who live united in this land, and of all mankind, of all those who love me, of those who cry to me, of those who seek me, of those who have confidence in me. Here I will hear their weeping, their sorrow, and will remedy and alleviate their suffering, necessities, and misfortunes." No more did the people need to cower in abject terror before the bloodthirsty gods who demanded the death of their children. They found refuge beneath the gracious protection of a gentle Mother."

~ From an article by Father Paul Marx, Founder of Human Life International ~

An Emmy winning filmmaker claims that miracles occured while filming the above movie. A cloud appeared and settled on the hillside they were filming on, just like in the original story. Birds appeared and sang when the script called for it. Contrails formed cloudlike rays of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The filmmaker has been to 250 cities telling audiences about what happened. Every time he filmed, something miraculous happened in front of the camera or behind the camera. The first day they filmed was the worst rainstorm in 100 years, yet not a drop of water fell on them as they filmed. Other things happened in the full length film not talked about here. Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen's Spiritual Adoption of an Unborn Child Prayer

Servant of God Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen encouraged this daily prayer to spiritually adopt an unborn child:

Jesus, Mary, Joseph, I love you very much. I beg of you to spare the life of the unborn child I have spiritually adopted, who is in danger of abortion.
***

From the Baltimore Archdiocese: What is the Spiritual Adoption Program?

It is very simple. Participants in the Spiritual Adoption Program pledge to pray for nine months for a baby in danger of abortion. While this child will remain unknown to his or her 'spiritual parent', God knows who the child is. Many people have found that naming 'their child' helps to keep them focused on the reality that their prayers are helping to save a particular baby from the harm of abortion. This can be done in a parish or school setting, with age appropriate materials.

The Purpose of the Spiritual Adoption Program is threefold:

1. Encourage prayer for those contemplating abortion, that they will respond to God's grace and welcome their child into life.

2. Educate adults and children about the development of the pre-born child.

3. Provide mothers in need with a 'baby shower' of donated baby gifts, or simply celebrate with a 'birthday party' at the conclusion of the program. In one school a crib was bought with monetary gifts and the students filled a crib with gifts for expectant mothers.

Prayer For Spiritual Supporters Of God's Precious Infants

Eternal Father, Author of All Life, I know that at this very moment a precious pre-born human life in the womb of his mother is in danger of a horrendous death. However, at this moment, I cannot be physically present at the scene to give a witness of your love for this tiny being you knit so wonderfully in his mother's womb. Nonetheless, I wish to present my spiritual self there and, with heartfelt prayers and supplications, to send Heaven-bound all pleas and urgings that your spirit rouse hearts to change and stop the killing of these your precious infants.

Therefore, Lord, although I am unable to be at the scene, I offer as a sacrifice all my labors, thoughts, prayers, inconveniences, sufferings and pains of this day to be united especially with the efforts of those who at this very moment are trying to prevent a precious life from being denied the right to see the light of your day. I offer myself with all the Sacrifices of the Holy Masses, which are ascending right now to your Holy Throne, and with all those who are speaking right now to Jesus in the Eucharist on behalf of the preborn, in the hope that even one precious infant's life might be saved, that one mother might hold her child the day of his birth, that one father might carry his offspring even as your Son Jesus Christ was carried by His earthly father.

Precious infant in the womb, hear my longings and remember that God your Father said that even should a mother forget her infant, He will never forget you.(Isaiah 49:15) I too, united with your Heavenly Father, will not forget you and will unite my prayers and fastings this day with all your Spiritual mothers and fathers who either right now are in your physical presence or who are in their homes, workplaces or wherever duty calls. I join also with the unutterable urgings of the Holy Spirit that labors for your birth.

Remember too, God's precious infant, that even as Rachel mourned her children who were no more (Jeremiah 31:15-17), we mourn and hope that the Mother of All Mothers, Mary our Mother, will turn these tears into a hope that no precious infant of God like yourself will have his life taken this day so violently.

Mary, Mother of God and Mother of us all, protect God's precious infants and intercede for them and for us, Spiritual Supporters, who pray and sacrifice daily for their lives, especially for those who at this very moment are in danger.

Finally, we pray that God forgives those mothers who this very day may make the tragic mistake and end the life within them, but more so God, we pray that this mistake not be made.

I offer these prayers to you my Holy Father, through the merits of your Son Jesus, who with You and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns forever and ever. Amen.

Fr. Thomas Euteneuer: Preparing for Pro-Life Spiritual Battle

"In our day and age, the greatest war we fight is the struggle to protect the sanctity of life, marriage and family. The attacks grow more relentless each day and the number of casualties is enormous. Will we fight with Him to defend the life of each and every unborn child? Advent is a time to ask ourselves that question and make sure that we are prepared for the battle and not playing into the hands of the Enemy through sloth or apathy. Will we defend marriage and the sanctity of the marital act from all immoral practices such as homosexuality, contraception, pornography and adultery? These are the main challenges of a slothful generation that has long ago given up fighting the most important battle-- that is, the fight to save our immortal souls. "

Abortion: Battle Against the Devil

"Let us never pretend that abortion is just a social or political phenomenon that has to be voted out of office to be defeated. We must do everything we can to restore legal protection to our most innocent citizens, but our battle against the devil will not be won at the polls. It will be won on our knees before the Lord and on our feet before the centers of death. More than ever we need men and women of tested holiness who are willing to fight the spiritual battle for the lives of God’s precious babies and the souls of their mothers and fathers."

Prayer of Thanksgiving for the Gift of Life

THANKSGIVING FOR THE GIFT OF LIFE

Heavenly Father, You are the giver of ALL life.
I thank You, Lord, for the gift of life which You have given me.
Teach me to recognize the sacredness of my life.
Teach me to honor the sacredness of others.
Remove from me the selfishness
that prevents me from experiencing the majesty of each soul.
Help me to recover from the indignities that I have suffered
and which have diminished my self respect.
Restore in me the conscious understanding that
Your Holy Spirit lives in me
and that all my actions and thoughts should reflect
the holiness of Your indwelling Presence.
Sanctify my life, Heavenly Father,
that I might be a blessing to all whom I meet.
Let this world be a brighter place
because You reached out to others through my simple acts of kindness.
Help me to believe in my own goodness that I may resist temptation
and celebrate Your gift of life this day. Amen.

Pope John Paul II: "Death Battles Against Life"

"When the Founding Fathers of this great nation enshrined certain unalienable rights in the Constitution - and something similar exists in many countries and in many International Declarations - they did so because they recognized the existence of a "law'' - a series of rights and duties engraved by the Creator on each person's heart and conscience.

"In much of contemporary thinking, any reference to a "law'' guaranteed by the Creator is absent. There remains only each individual's choice of this or that objective as convenient or useful in a given set of circumstances. No longer is anything considered intrinsically "good'' and "universally binding''. Rights are affirmed but, because they are without any reference to an objective truth, they are deprived of any solid basis (cf. Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Threats to Human Life, I, iii). Vast sectors of society are confused about what is right and what is wrong, and are at the mercy of those with the power to "create'' opinion and impose it on others.

"The family especially is under attack. And the sacred character of human life denied. Naturally the weakest members of society are the most at risk: the unborn, children, the sick, the handicapped, the old, the poor and unemployed, the immigrant and refugee...

"Do not be afraid to go out on the streets and into public places, like the first Apostles who preached Christ and the Good News of salvation in the squares of cities, towns and villages. This is no time to be ashamed of the Gospel (cf. Rom 1:16). It is the time to preach it from the rooftops (cf. Mt 10:27). Do not be afraid to break out of comfortable and routine modes of living, in order to take up the challenge of making Christ known in the modern "metropolis''. It is you who must "go out into the byroads'' (Mt 22:9) and invite everyone you meet to the banquet which God has prepared for his people. The Gospel must not be kept hidden because of fear or indifference. It was never meant to be hidden away in private. It has to be put on a stand so that people may see its light and give praise to our heavenly Father (cf. Mt 5:15-16)."

God's Gift of Life: Elessar's Joy of Life

Sometimes human beings get bogged down and forget to enjoy and appreciate the gifts God has given us. It is easy to take blessings for granted. There is so much to be grateful for every day. We all need to take time to count our blessings. Life itself is a gift from God. None of us would exist if He had not loved us, wanted us, created us, and breathed life into us.

If you have a few minutes, I encourage you to take the time to watch Elessar the colt. This is one of God's creatures who really knows how to enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

A Reflection of God's Love

God creates human beings in HIS image and likeness. Humans are created out of love by God, Who IS Love. We are made to love and be loved. The degree that we depart from loving is the degree to which we distance ourselves from God. God's rule of life is simple--love Him and love one another. Love is the source of true happiness in this life and for all eternity.

God made the world filled with beauties and wonders of nature for all of His children on earth. He even created faithful animal companions that reflect His unconditional love for us.

Pope John Paul II Pays Homage to Mothers

“We would like to pay homage to all brave mothers who dedicate themselves to their own family without reserve, who suffer in giving birth to their children and who are ready to make any effort, to face any sacrifice, in order to pass on to them the best of themselves ... How hard they have to fight against difficulties and dangers! How frequently they are called to face genuine ‘wolves’ determined to snatch and scatter the flock! And these heroic mothers do not always find support in their surroundings. On the contrary, the cultural models frequently promoted and broadcast by the media do not encourage motherhood. In the name of progress and modernity, the values of fidelity, chastity, sacrifice, in which a host of Christian wives and mothers have distinguished and continue to distinguish themselves, are presented as obsolete. As a result, a woman who is determined to be consistent with her principles often feels deeply alone, alone in her love which she cannot betray, and to which she must remain faithful. Her guiding principle is Christ, who has revealed the love which the Father bestows on us. A woman who believes in Christ finds a powerful support precisely in this love that bears everything. It is a love that enables her to believe that all she does for a child conceived, born, adolescent or adult, she does at the same time for a child of God. As Saint John states in today’s reading: ‘We are called children of God, and that is what we are’ (1 John 3:1).”

Fr. John Hardon, S.J. Speaks About Abortion

"To stem this tide of abortion will require a series of moral miracles. By definition a moral miracle is a visible effect produced by God which exceeds the native powers of the human will. We may be sure that Christ wants to work this miracle. When He rebuked the disciples, and told them to “let the little children come unto me,” He was speaking to all of us. He wants the children conceived to be born, to reach maturity, and glorify Him by their loving service. But Christ demands that we pray in faith and trust in His divine power to change hearts of stone into hearts of selfless love for the unborn.”

Abortions were performed daily from 8am until 12 midnight in 10 operating rooms--ending the lives of 120 unborn babies every day. He even admits to killing his own unborn child. In the following video, a subdued Dr. Nathanson speaks before an audience saying:

"I stand before you as a mass murderer.

I am directly responsible for the deaths of 75,000 innocent children."

Infertility, Adoption, Child Loss, Medical

I am eager to share with you a newly discovered website, which offers "prayer support and comfort to the brokenhearted who suffer the pains of infertility at any stage of life, difficult pregnancy, miscarriage, stillbirth, the loss of a child and the adoption process."

The Apostolate of Hannah's Tears was founded in 2003 in Columbus, Ohio on the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. Under each of four main headings on their website there are resources specific to that issue--infertility, adoption, child loss, and medical.

I pray that the Holy Spirit will lead to The Apostolate of Hannah's Tears all those who will benefit from the support and information available through this organization's website and blog.

Catechism of the Catholic Church: Abortion

"Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception. From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person--among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life." 2270, Catechism of the Catholic Church

"Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law." 2271, Catechism of the Catholic Church

God's Call to Pro-life Unity

Yesterday's post told about Abby Johnson, a Planned Parenthood director who converted from being, in her own words, "extremely pro-choice" to being pro-life after recently seeing the harsh reality of an actual abortion procedure on ultrasound. Thanks be to God for opening her mind and heart to the true nature of abortion.

During the eight years that Abby worked at Planned Parenthood, she was present for the first ever 40 Days for Life campaign in 2004 conducted outside the abortion facility where she worked, and she was present for the first national campaign and all 40 days for Life campaigns since the first. It was during this recently finished Fall campaign that Abby's heart was finally touched and converted.

Abby's conversion was a great joy and encouragement for all those who have been praying, fasting and keeping a prayerful, peaceful vigil outside abortion facilities during 40 Days campaigns, at other times as well, and for decades of years prior to 40 Days for Life campaigns. There were a total of eight clinic workers who left their jobs during this just ended fall campaign and up to this date 542 babies whose lives were saved in this one campaign alone. Since the first 40 Days there have been over 2000 babies saved from abortion and many abortion workers converted, and those are only the ones known about for certain.

I am personally encouraged, motivated and reinvigorated by seeing what God has inspired and is promoting and supporting by HIS GRACE. He has made it obvious that we are NOT ALONE in this seemingly unending battle, but are warriors called to serve under the greatest and most powerful Commander-in-Chief possible in HIS WAR against the unseen forces of evil that seek to destroy not only the lives of the unborn, but the lives of those who are seduced into participating in abortion.

I believe that the MANY DECADES OF YEARS of prayers, sacrifices and pro-life efforts of COUNTLESS pro-life warriors have been rewarded by 40 Days for Life, this new and mighty inspiration of the Holy Spirit that is uniting pro-life ministries and groups throughout the nation and the world. It is a call to UNITY that is being answered by ministries like Priests for Life, Silent No More, Project Rachel, Helpers of God's Precious Infants, and many, many others. It is GOD'S CALL TO UNITY--not David Bereit's, Father Pavone's or any visible leader. They are HIS instruments, HIS voice to recruit new volunteers and to reinvigorate veterans to zealously persevere in HIS battle for life.

God has decided that it is time for a new SURGE in this spiritual war against the lives of the unborn and against those whose involvement with abortion will damage their lives and their relationship with God. HE IS LEADING IT! HE IS CALLING US! He wants to use ALL OF US as His instruments, His voice--not just some of us. What a privilege it is to serve Our Lord, our God! We could not be at Calvary when Jesus was abandoned by most of His followers, but we CAN be at the modern day Calvary of the abortion mills where what is done to the unborn is done TO Him, and where what is done for the unborn is done FOR Him.

Redeeming and converting a civilization has already been done once.
It can be done again.

But we need to understand that God is calling you and me to do it.
He chose us. He calls us.

He's waiting and now we need to answer Him.

Planned Parenthood Director's Spiritual Conversion

Praise God! After eight years of working at Planned Parenthood, Abby Johnson resigned last month after seeing an ultrasound of an abortion procedure. She was also disillusioned by the recent focus on abortion as a way to bring in more revenue, saying, "The money wasn't in family planning, the money wasn't in prevention, the money was in abortion..."

Abortion: Spiritual Warfare With St. Michael the Archangel

"The battle against the devil, which is the principal task of St. Michael the Archangel, is still being fought today because the devil is still alive and active in the world. The evil that surrounds us today, the disorders that plague our society, man's inconsistency and brokenness, are not only the result of original sin, but also the result of Satan's pervasive and dark action."

~Pope John Paul II, 1987, at the Sanctuary of St. Michael the Archangel~

Human Life International is calling on all those who want to see an end to abortion to pray a daily prayer to St. Michael for the conversion of abortionists. Prayer cards are available in 27 languages.

Tribute to Mary, Mother of God

The one who accepted "Life" in the name of all and for the sake of all was Mary, the Virgin Mother; she is thus most closely and personally associated with the Gospel of life. Mary's consent at the Annunciation and her motherhood stand at the very beginning of the mystery of life which Christ came to bestow on humanity (cf. Jn 10:10). Through her acceptance and loving care for the life of the Incarnate Word, human life has been rescued from condemnation to final and eternal death.

For this reason, Mary, "like the Church of which she is a type, is a mother of all who are reborn to life. She is in fact the mother of the Life by which everyone lives, and when she brought it forth from herself she in some way brought to rebirth all those who were to live by that Life".

...The church is fully aware that she bears within herself the Saviour of the world, Christ the Lord. She is aware that she is called to offer Christ to the world, giving men and women new birth into God's own life. But the Church cannot forget that her mission was made possible by the motherhood of Mary, who conceived and bore the One who is "God from God", "true God from true God". Mary is truly the Mother of God, the Theotokos, in whose motherhood the vocation to motherhood bestowed by God on every woman is raised to its highest level...

Archbishop Charles Chaput: The Misuse of Freedom

"The American Jesuit scholar Father John Courtney Murray once said that 'Anyone who really believes in God must set God, and the truth of God, above all other considerations.'

"Here's what that means. Catholic public officials who take God seriously cannot support laws that attack human dignity without lying to themselves, misleading others and abusing the faith of their fellow Catholics. God will demand an accounting. Catholic doctors who take God seriously cannot do procedures, prescribe drugs or support health policies that attack the sanctity of unborn children or the elderly; or that undermine the dignity of human sexuality and the family. God will demand an accounting. And Catholic citizens who take God seriously cannot claim to love their Church, and then ignore her counsel on vital public issues that shape our nation's life. God will demand an accounting. As individuals, we can claim to be or believe whatever we want. We can posture, and rationalize our choices, and make alibis with each other all day long--but no excuse for our lack of honesty and zeal will work with the God who made us. God knows our hearts better than we do. If we don't conform our hearts and actions to the faith we claim to believe, we're only fooling ourselves.

"We live in a culture where our marketers and entertainment media compulsively mislead us about the sustainability of youth; the indignity of old age; the avoidance of suffering; the denial of death; the meaning of real beauty; the impermanence of every human love; the dysfunctions of children and family; the silliness of virtue; and the cynicism of religious faith. It's a culture of fantasy, selfishness and illness that we've brought upon ourselves. And we've done it by misusing the freedom that other--and greater--generations than our own worked for, bled for and bequeathed to our safekeeping.

"What have we done with that freedom? In whose service do we use it now?"

"...the same Father Murray who revered the best ideals of the American experiment could also write that 'Our American culture, as it exists, is actually the quintessence of all that is decadent in the culture of the of the Western Christian world. It would seem to erected on the triple denial that has corrupted Western culture at its roots: the denial of metaphysical reality, of the primacy of the spiritual over the material, of the social over the individual...Its most striking characteristic is its profound materialism...It has given citizens everything to live for and nothing to die for. And its achievement may be summed up thus: It has gained a continent and lost its own soul.' "

The Truth About the Abortion Industry

If you want to learn the truth about what goes on inside abortion facilities, read the testimonies of these former abortion providers.

Carol Everett, former abortion clinic owner: "I cannot tell you one thing that happens in an abortion clinic that is not a lie."

Dr. Anthony Levatino, former abortionist: "...I started to realize...this is somebody's child. I lost my chd, someone who was very precious to us. And now I am taking somebody's child and I am tearing him right out of their womb. I am killing somebody's child."

Dr. Beverly McMillan, former abortionist: "I felt the presence of someone coming up over the back seat of my car and grasping my right shoulder--the hand of heaven."

Joan Appleton, R.N., former abortion nurse: I handled the ultrasound while the doctor performed the procedure...I saw the baby puling away. I saw the baby open his mouth...I couldn't deny what I saw on the screen."

Dr. McArthur Hill, former abortionist: "There isn't any way that you can say there isn't a human body when you can look and see the little arms, feet and faces...sometimes the aborted babies were bigger than the premature babies we took to the nursery."

Luhra Tives, former abortion clinic staffer for abortionist Dr.Tiller: "There was nothing wrong with these babies at all--nothing--and these were third trimester abortions."

Fr. Sudac Preaches on Abortion, Chastity, Stealing

Fr. Zlatko Sudac, a Catholic priest, doesn't mince words in his concern for the saving of lives and the salvation of souls:

"...human life was never more endangered than in our time,

and who knows how much more it will become in the future,

we can only pray for God's mercy...

at this very second...thousands of people are killed all around the world,

not only with knives, guns, and bombs,

but with the use of your own uterus.

Yes, you're killing.

You who decided to abort...you haven't prevented only one life,

you prevented that child's children and that child's children's children,

and that child's children's children's children's children...

You said to the God's plan: STOP,

because you prohibited someone to come to life...

you prohibited thousands of people to come..

And if you've had 1, 2, 3 or more abortions,

how many thousands of people have you killed?"

One Creator: One Pair of Hands

When I behold your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars which You set in place--
what is man that You should be mindful of him,
or the son of man that You should care for him?
You have made him little less than the angels,
and crowned him with glory and honor.
You have given him rule over the works of your hands,
putting all things under his feet:
all sheep and oxen, yes, and the beasts of the field,
the birds of the air, the fishes of the sea,
and whatever swims the paths of the seas.
O Lord, our Lord,
how glorious is your name over all the earth!

New York City: Abortion Capital of America

More than 100,00 abortions are performed in New York City every year! Is it any wonder why a New York Magazine article called it the abortion capital of America? That's hardly a distinction to be proud of--100,000 babies denied the right to life by those who have been blessed with the gift of life themselves!

From today's 40 Days for Life blog post:

"...abortion would still be a tragedy even if it only claimed one life."

Dred Scott Decision: Roe v. Wade

"Despite the formidable obstacles before us, we must not lose heart. This is not the first time our country has been divided by a Supreme Court decision that denied the value of certain human lives. The Dred Scott decision of 1857 was not overturned in a day, or a year, or even a decade. At first, only a minority of Americans recognized and deplored the moral crisis brought about by denying the full humanity of our black brothers and sisters; but that minority persisted in their vision and finally prevailed. They did it by appealing to the hearts and minds of their countrymen, to the truth of human dignity under God. From their example, we know that respect for the sacred value of human life is too deeply engrained in the hearts of our people to remain forever suppressed. But the great majority of the American people have not yet made their voices heard..."

Pope John Paul II: Power of Prayer and Fasting

"Jesus himself has shown us by his own example that prayer and fasting are the first and most effective weapons against the forces of evil (cf. Mt 4: 1-11). As he taught his disciples, some demons cannot be driven out except in this way (Mk 9:29). Let us therefore discover anew the humility and the courage to pray and fast so that power from on high will break down the walls of lies and deceit: the walls which conceal from the sight of so many of our brothers and sisters the evil of practices and laws which are hostile to life. May this same power turn their hearts to resolutions and goals inspired by the civilization of life and love."

Eduardo Verastegui: 40 Days for Life

God used Eduardo Verastegui to help save a baby's life! Eduardo could not have known that his decision to stop and pray at a 40 Days for Life prayer vigil outside an abortion center in 2008 would actually save a life.

The same can be said for all those who volunteer to offer a prayerful, peaceful, public witness to the sanctity of all human life. The tens of thousands of people participating in this fall 40 Days for Life campaign by prayer, fasting, community outreach, and prayer vigil outside abortion centers can rejoice in the blessing of babies' lives saved. On this twenty-seventh day of the fall 2009 campaign, there have been 299 babies saved--299 precious lives!

If you have not yet participated in 40 Days for Life, there is still time. It is not too late. Check their website for a location near you. If there is no location nearby, you can still participate by prayer and fasting. How often do any of us get a chance to help save lives? We have the chance now, thanks be to God!

St. Gerard Majella: Saint for Mothers and Children

Today is the feast day of St. Gerard Majella. He has never been officially proclaimed patron saint of mothers by the Church, but a long history of his powerful intercession for mothers and their children, expectant mothers and their unborn children, and those who hope to be mothers has earned him popular acclaim as patron saint of mothers.

I can personally attest to St. Gerard's helpfulness. I had prayed to be blessed with children to no avail. When someone told me about St. Gerard and I started praying to him, God answered my prayers very quickly. It seems God wants to answer prayers by mothers and for motherhood through St. Gerard.

PRAYER TO ST. GERARD

St. Gerard, you worshiped Jesus as the Lord of Life.
I ask you today to pray for my special intention.
(Mention your intention here.)
Lift up to Jesus
all those who seek to conceive a child,
all those having difficult pregnancies,
all those who have suffered the loss of a child,
and all who lovingly lift up their children to God.
Pray that all of us,
by caring for mothers, fathers, and children born and unborn,
may build a Culture of Life,
in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

SILENT NO MORE: Post Abortion Healing

If you are suffering because of an abortion, help and healing is available for you. The Silent No More Awareness Campaign is one organization that speaks from the experience of personal suffering because of involvement with abortion. Mothers are not the only ones who suffer regrets and agony after an abortion. Fathers, grandparents, siblings, aunts and uncles, cousins, friends, and abortion providers are only some of those affected by the tragedy of abortion. The list is endless, because abortion affects all of humanity. The child is gone, but serious consequences remain for those touched by that one life created by a loving God. Relationships with God and others are changed or damaged. Read the testimonies of those who hope to spare others the suffering they've experienced.

Father John Corapi: Death Wish of a Once Great Nation

"It is hard to believe that we have degenerated to the point that we'll murder a helpless baby should it escape the violence of an abortion and be born alive.

"...genocide: the deliberate and systematic destruction of an ethnic, racial, religious, national or social group. What's the group, you might ask. The group is unborn, unwanted children--tens of millions of them.

"From artificial conception to abortion, to partial birth abortion, then on to infanticide, we march toward the abyss of oblivion--a society marked for death. Is it any wonder we can rationalize the killing of the elderly and the sick through euthanasia?

"We are dying by suicide, moral and spiritual suicide; and the moral demise of a nation almost always precedes the ultimate demise of a nation.

"The clock is ticking. Midnight is approaching. Time is running out for our nation--a nation that once was a great nation and could be great again if enough of us wake up and renounce this curse of a death wish. Will God turn His friends over to His enemies as He has done multiple times in the past?

"In the end it is likely that President Abraham Lincoln had it right: "Intoxicated with unbroken success we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us!" and thus forgetting that we are one nation under God, we become a nation gone under as President Reagan warned.

"May God grant us the grace to awake from this deadly moral slumber, renounce the death wish, and live like truly free men and women in the glorious freedom of the children of God."
~ Father John Corapi ~

Blessed Mother Teresa: "Greatest Destoyer of Love and Peace Is Abortion"

40 Days for Life is God's work! If anyone thinks that this pro-life initiative is too little too late, they are sadly mistaken. From the beginning, it was inspired by the Holy Spirit and has grown and borne fruit through the power of the Holy Spirit. If anyone thinks God is indifferent to abortion, they are wrong!

God is Life! Jesus, who is both God and man, said, "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life." God creates life. God sustains life. Only God has the right to decide when a life sent into the world by Him returns to Him.

God loves everyone regardless of the side of the abortion debate a person is on, but God has chosen sides in this debate. He is on the side of life and on the side of all the lives He has created. He does not compromise on this issue.

40 Days for Life was inspired by the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Love. The foundation for this campaign for life is love--love for God, love for the unborn, love for those who have participated in abortion, love for those who might participate in abortion, love for all those who are mistaken in their support of abortion, love for our nations, love for all peoples of the world.

If anyone thinks abortion doesn't affect them or their family, they are mistaken. Abortion affects EVERYONE! Only when God's law of love is obeyed will there be peace on earth! Abortion, the deliberate destruction of tiny, vulnerable human beings before they have a chance to be born is not of God, is not of love. To deny a person the right to life is an insult to the God who creates all life out of His infinite love for mankind.

Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta said, "Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use violence to get what they want. That's why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion."

Read the 40 Days for Life link to learn how God used an 8-year-old girl singing "Jesus Loves Me" to help save an unborn baby's life.
