Colts Coach Spared From Abortion: The Impact of One Decision for Life

From LifeNews editor Steven Ertelt:
When tens of millions of people around the world tune in for the Super Bowl... they will finally get a chance to see the commercial celebrating the life of Tim Tebow. But viewers may not know Clyde Christensen, the assistant head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, has his own potential abortion story that changed his life.

Coach Christensen had this to say about being spared from abortion:
"I also can't help but look back and think of how easily my life and thus generations to follow could have been snuffed out before it ever got started."

"I can't help but think of a 15-year-old, unwed, pregnant teen who made a courageous decision not to abort her child, but instead gave him a chance at life that over 50 million children since have not had. That child was me,"

"but I am so grateful for her courage to have her child when it wasn't and still isn't to this day the choice of most."

"I am grateful for her unselfishness in wanting the best life for me and the decision that I might benefit from life in another family. I'm touched by her faith in entrusting her child to God with confidence,...She trusted God would find the right family and would watch over her child throughout his life."

"I am a husband, a father of three terrific daughters, and I'm an NFL football coach. I don't know of anyone whose life has been more blessed than mine... Coaching has given me the opportunity to influence many young lives throughout the years. And today, my own beautiful girls have and will continue to impact this world for good. What an impact one right decision can have."

Patrick Henry Hughes: The Mystery and Wonder of God's Plan For Each Human Life

"As we look upon the disabled, the handicapped, those who struggle with deformity, mental illnes, profound and/or mild mental disability we are often moved to sadness and even horror. And we easily ask, “Why does God allow this?!” We quickly conclude that such people’s lives are unhappy or that they will never reach full potential.

"And yet I wonder if we really know what we are talking about. Who of us can really say what our own purpose in God’s plan is let alone anyone else’s? We are like paperclips in a drawer who know only one thing. Our minds are too small for us to ever understand the very special and significant role that even the most “impaired” in our world play. Perhaps in heaven we will realize what an indispensable and central role role they had in God’s plan and victory.

"...the knowledge of the dignity and essential purpose of every human being to God and his plan. Our judgments in this matter cannot be much better than a paperclip in a drawer compared to God’s omniscient wisdom. If it is absurd for us to think a paperclip could understand our ways is it really much less absurd to think we can understand all God’s ways? And if we cannot understand his ways, why do we make judgments as to another person’s role, usefulness, beatitude or status? We look down on the poor but scripture says we should look up to them and that God is especially close to the poor, the suffering, the brokenhearted and the humble. Scripture says he uses the lowly to humble the proud. And yet still we so easily look with pity on those we consider disadvantaged.

"One day in the great by and by we may well be surprised to learn that the most central and critical people in God’s plan were the most humble and often the most broken and that we would never have made it without them."

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made by Almighty God

O Lord, You have probed me and You know me; You know when I sit and when I stand; You understand my thoughts from afar….Truly You have formed my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I give You thanks that I am fearfully, wonderfully made...My soul also You knew full well; nor was my frame unknown to You when I was made in secret...Your eyes have seen my actions; in your book they are all written; my days were limited before one of them existed. (Psalm of David, 139)

Prayer of Thanksgiving for the Blessings of the Past Year

O God, the beginning and the end of all things,
Who art always the same, and Whose years fail not,
we now, at the close of another year,
kneel in adoration before Thee, and offer Thee our deepest thanks
for the fatherly care with which Thou has watched over us during the past,
for the many times Thou hast protected us from evils of soul and body,
and for the numberless blessings, both temporal and spiritual,
which Thou hast showered upon us.
May it please Thee to accept the homage of our grateful hearts which we offer Thee
in union with the infinite thanksgiving of Thy divine Son,our Lord Jesus Christ,
Who with Thee liveth and reigneth forever and ever. Amen.

The Wisdom of Today Well Lived

Look to this day
For it is life,
The very life of life.

In its brief course lie all
the realities and truths of existence
the joy of growth
the glory of action
the splendor of beauty.

For yesterday is already a memory
and tomorrow is only a vision
but today well lived makes every
yesterday a memory of happiness
and every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day!

Fr. Thomas Eunteneuer: Thanksgiving and Protection for God's Gift of Life

"First and foremost, we thank God for the precious gift of our lives. No matter what the circumstances of our conception or birth are; no matter what challenges we may have had to face, life itself is a good that comes from on high and which God always sustains. We can share our lives with others, fill others with life and lay down our lives for our friends. Those who are married can even participate with God in the creation of new life for time and eternity. Not even the angels have been given the gift of procreation!

"More than anything we are called to protect life which is sacred and which is so threatened in our day and age. In this Advent season we must make sure that we have some type of explicit pro-life, pro-marriage or pro-family commitment to others in order to show God how much we appreciate these tremendous gifts of His love."

God's Gift of Life: Elessar's Joy of Life

Sometimes human beings get bogged down and forget to enjoy and appreciate the gifts God has given us. It is easy to take blessings for granted. There is so much to be grateful for every day. We all need to take time to count our blessings. Life itself is a gift from God. None of us would exist if He had not loved us, wanted us, created us, and breathed life into us.

If you have a few minutes, I encourage you to take the time to watch Elessar the colt. This is one of God's creatures who really knows how to enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

A Reflection of God's Love

God creates human beings in HIS image and likeness. Humans are created out of love by God, Who IS Love. We are made to love and be loved. The degree that we depart from loving is the degree to which we distance ourselves from God. God's rule of life is simple--love Him and love one another. Love is the source of true happiness in this life and for all eternity.

God made the world filled with beauties and wonders of nature for all of His children on earth. He even created faithful animal companions that reflect His unconditional love for us.

The Impact of One Life

THE IMPACT OF ONE LIFE

WHEN A STONE IS DROPPED INTO A LAKE,

IT QUICKLY DISAPPEARS FROM SIGHT--

BUT ITS IMPACT LEAVES BEHIND A SERIES OF RIPPLES

THAT BROADEN AND REACH ACROSS THE WATER.

IN THE SAME WAY,

THE IMPACT OF ONE LIFE LIVED FOR CHRIST

WILL LEAVE BEHIND AN INFLUENCE FOR GOOD

THAT WILL REACH THE LIVES OF MANY OTHERS.

One Creator: One Pair of Hands

When I behold your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars which You set in place--
what is man that You should be mindful of him,
or the son of man that You should care for him?
You have made him little less than the angels,
and crowned him with glory and honor.
You have given him rule over the works of your hands,
putting all things under his feet:
all sheep and oxen, yes, and the beasts of the field,
the birds of the air, the fishes of the sea,
and whatever swims the paths of the seas.
O Lord, our Lord,
how glorious is your name over all the earth!
(Psalm, 8: 4-10)

Eduardo Verastegui: 40 Days for Life

God used Eduardo Verastegui to help save a baby's life! Eduardo could not have known that his decision to stop and pray at a 40 Days for Life prayer vigil outside an abortion center in 2008 would actually save a life.

The same can be said for all those who volunteer to offer a prayerful, peaceful, public witness to the sanctity of all human life. The tens of thousands of people participating in this fall 40 Days for Life campaign by prayer, fasting, community outreach, and prayer vigil outside abortion centers can rejoice in the blessing of babies' lives saved. On this twenty-seventh day of the fall 2009 campaign, there have been 299 babies saved--299 precious lives!

If you have not yet participated in 40 Days for Life, there is still time. It is not too late. Check their website for a location near you. If there is no location nearby, you can still participate by prayer and fasting. How often do any of us get a chance to help save lives? We have the chance now, thanks be to God!
